Work With Us

Inundated.

May 21, 2023

(3 min read) I recently read an interesting statistic: "In one day we process as much information as a person 100 years ago would process in an entire year."

I think this is WILD. How are we supposed to live our lives with intention, be grounded and present when we're in constant "information triage" mode? How are we supposed to spend time authentically listening to our children and being present in moments of self-care when we're literally flooded with information without our consent (cough algorithm cough) which then turns into tasks we didn't know we "needed" to do or more research or worse- anxiety.

I don't have to tell you, fellow high achieving mom, that we probably have it the worst because we are not only exposed to so much information but we want to fully dissect it and then implement it to the best of our abilities.

But what does this truly yield? EXHAUSTION.

Being in survival mode at all times is purely exhausting and ultimately unsustainable. So how do we deal with the inundation of information? We build a dam.

A mental dam that is. At first I wasn't sure how to do this so I decided to do a little experiment and I began to pay attention to moments I'm not "processing information". It turns out, it's extremely limited when my brain is still and I realized I may have even conditioned myself to never not be thinking about something. The fact of the matter is that our brains need stillness. We are better mothers, individuals and community members when our brains are not constantly in information triage mode(i.e. survival mode).

So upon further digging and experimentation, here is how I built my dam and how I don't feel as inundated as I once did.
(Please feel free to Google these techniques or find others that work for you while maintaining the boundary that not all info is high quality info.)

How Naomi stills her mind/deals with anxiety:
  • Box Breathing
  • 4-7-8 Breathing
  • Yoga Nidra
  • Mediating at the alpha brain wavelength frequency level
  • Qigong introduced to me by my friend Zuzana owner of Hummingbird Qigong
  • Vibrational Audio which I actually got to experience in person today at our Renew mom self-care event with Alysse Gaynor
  • Going for a walk outside without headphones on- let me dig into this one a bit. I woke up super early one day and I decided to go for a walk. I decided to go without my headphones and it was so refreshing. Everything was so calm as most people were not awake yet. I heard the birds, felt the crisp morning air and got to sync into my breath. It was refreshing, grounding, free, and minimally time consuming.

As we strive to reach our Mirvana- the ultimate state of balance as a mom and highly capable individual, I urge you to protect yourself from the inundation of unnecessary information and tasks. You are such an important person on this Earth. Sending you positive and grounding vibes this week.

Honor your importance and safeguard your mind. All our kids depend on it. See you in next week's e-newsletter.
